Carbon fibre wheels on an SUV? You bet.
That’s the verdict of YouTube auto reviewer, Joe Raiti, who recently drove the 2025 Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two, which features 23-inch lightweight carbon fibre wheels supplied by Carbon Revolution.
Taking the high-performance Range Rover for a spin, Raiti told the 1.2 million Raiti’s Rides subscribers that the lighter carbon fibre wheels were instantly noticeable for their performance improvement.
“Man you could really feel the difference when it comes into things like turning,” Raiti said.
“That’s where it’s going to surprise you…you can feel the less weight of this vehicle compared to a standard Sport SV.”
The 23-inch carbon fibre wheels which Carbon Revolution supplies to JLR contribute to a 76kg overall weight saving for the Range Rover Sport SV, the wheels themselves being 41% lighter than conventional cast-alloy wheels of the same size.1
“That’s going to lighten your rotating mass, give you quicker steering and it’s less unsprung mass at all four corners,” Raiti explained.
The reductions in unsprung, rotating mass are significant, as this mass is far more dynamic than mass on the vehicle’s chassis.
On the road, it means far greater efficiency and less load on suspension components, providing quicker acceleration, shorter stopping times and sharper dynamics.
“Where you’re really going to notice the difference with the wheels is when you pick up steam because of that less rotating mass, and of course when you’re turning,” Raiti said.
At the launch of the Range Rover Sport SV, JLR said customers could expect improvements to outright performance, handling and ride quality. Manufacturer figures clocked the 0-60mph acceleration at just 3.6 seconds with Carbon Revolution wheels.
“While incredibly light, they are engineered and tested to the toughest durability and robustness standards – the same as Range Rover’s cast or forged alloy wheels,” the JLR media release stated.
While Joe Raiti said he never thought he “would see the day” that carbon fibre wheels were fitted to an SUV, the performance and efficiency benefits are clear.
“And they look oh so good.”
