Carbon Revolution is a privately-owned Australian company. Its origins are in advanced materials R&D and vehicle engineering within world-leading technology organizations. The company emerged from an independent R&D program providing technology mentoring to university teams involved in Formula SAE campaigns. The first composite wheels developed by the founders appeared in 2004 on SAE vehicles competing in this global competition.
The venture rapidly evolved into a highly focused and effective group of leading engineers, scientists and industrialists. The team has expanded to add the skills and experience necessary to commercialize this technology and take it to the various global markets that are hungry for step change efficiency technologies of this type.
Among the founders and subsequent hires are ex-OEM senior engineers from chassis development and drivetrain roles, senior manufacturing executives from world-leading automotive component suppliers, R&D specialists from leading aircraft manufacturers, industrial composites manufacturing specialists and numerous PhDs with world-leading materials and structures knowledge.
Carbon Revolution also has numerous formal partnerships for technology development and product testing around the world. This includes Deakin University and RMIT University in Australia, both globally recognized institutions in their respective fields of materials sciences and aerospace technology.
ACHIEVING OEM STANDARDS
With this team in place, the rigor of aerospace processes has been effectively merged with the efficiency and process controls characteristic of high-volume automotive component manufacturing. Achieving global OEM standards for component supply (TS16949) by early 2013 was a key element of the overall world-class approach to quality and process control. This approach has attracted strong support and funding from the Australian Government under its $5.4 billion New Car Plan.
Carbon Revolution conducted much of the early laboratory testing in Europe using techniques and testing rigs that are preferred by OEMs instead of the common industry tests. This approach has ensured that the most rigorous standards required by European OEMs have been met or exceeded.
From the outset, the team has adopted a clear strategy of understanding, meeting, and ultimately exceeding, OEM standards prior to any product being launched into the automotive market.
